WHO NEEDS A LICENSE FOR SECURITY IN TEXAS?

In Texas, any company or individual involved in performing work on electronic security projects or services, such as intrusion alarms,
alarm monitoring, video surveillance, and/or access control systems, must be registered for a Class B Texas Security Contractor
License. Additionally, Security Technicians must obtain and register an Installer License under a Class B Contractor License.

Security Contractors

Security

Companies that provide Electronic Security Systems, Intrusion Alarms, Alarm Monitoring, Video Surveillance, Access Control, Security Service & Maintenance are required to hold a Security Contractor License.

Security Wiring Contractors

License

Electrical Contractors, Audio-Visual Contractors, IT Contractors, and Sub-Contractors who provide security wiring in Texas are required to hold a Security Contractor License.

Security Labor & Staffing
Contractors

Security

Security Installers and Staffing Contractors that provide electronic security labor services in Texas are required to hold a Security Contractor License.

Security Technicians

License

Security Technicians who work on Electronic Access Control systems must hold an “Electronic Access Control Device Installer” Texas Private Security License, which is registered under a Company’s Class B Texas Security Contractor License. Additionally, Security Technicians working on Electronic Security Intrusion Alarms, Monitoring, and Video Surveillance must possess an “Alarm Systems Installer” Texas Private Security License, also registered under a Company’s Class B Texas Security Contractor License.

Texas law requires any person or company providing security services in the state to be properly licensed to offer or engage in such services. This requirement was originally passed by the Texas Legislature in 1969 and has been in effect ever since.
